When I was a little girl I would hold my father's EP records up to the light

with their instruments and their top hats

Birth, rebirth, baptism, born again,
born of the spirit, renewed, restored.
Re-awakened, reconciled, reconciliation sorry, so sorry

Come follow, follow, follow, follow, follow, follow me.
Come follow me and I will make you fishers of men.

We do a number of weddings here at St David’s
and they are all lovely in their own particular ways.
The brides of assorted shapes and sizes are always beautiful, always aglow.
The grooms, no matter how alpha male and tough
are often struck still and tear filled at the sight of their bride
and their families, no matter how fractured and fraught are united,
if only for a moment in this pure expression of hope.
I am lucky. Very lucky.
I have done a number of pregnancy tests in my time and every time I did one
and stood waiting,
waiting and willing the two blue lines to appear

and physically and spiritually care for a baby,
if I was indeed pregnant.
If the test was positive.
When my Gran was dying, late last year, she began to dance.
She didn’t dance intentionally and she didn’t dance consciously
and she was dressed only in her nighty but, despite all this,
she danced.
I had a friend once.
A tall willow of a man and he wrote a little poem called upside downside.
‘Don’t worry mum the worlds in a spin its an upside downside thing we’re in.’
Just a little poem, just a few words.
But I’ve always thought how relevant they are to followers of the gospel.
